1.It’s my birthday, too!
To be honest with you, I didn’t even feel the usual anticipatory excitement leading up to my birthday this year because I was too busy being heartbroken over the fact that my dog decided to flee this mortal coil and return himself to the cosmos and too sickened over the fact that the US once again decided to complete another incredibly terrifying electoral cycle.
We are, I fear, the most fucked country.
But nevertheless, she persisted…in getting older.
And getting older is a privilege. Just like writing romance novels. And reading them, too.
2. Speaking of reading romance novels!
Okay, so I’m currently doing a giveaway on Instagram in celebration of my day of birth, which if you’re on Instagram, you can hop on over and enter right now, the requirements are incredibly easy. And in my personal opinion, this is actually the coolest giveaway I’ve ever done.
The prize is my sole annotated copy of Breathless.
All the annotations are my personal insights into my own book. And there’s only one!
Why am I giving it away? Because I don’t like to hold on to that much stuff. Especially when it comes to books, I believe a book in a hand is worth two on the shelf, if you know what I mean. (That’s gotta be the saying, right?)
And because I was an English major in college, so you best believe I am THOROUGH.
If you’re a behind the scenes kind of person, or you love extremely rare/special copies of books, or you just love a deep dive (like me, who will watch basically any 5 hour youtube video on any niche topic as long as it’s well presented), then this giveaway might be for you!
So, good luck if you enter. And fair warning, I’m a literary girly at heart. I love me some symbolism.
3. Here’s what you’re gonna do, okay?
You’re gonna go on reddit, you’re gonna subscribe to r/autumn, r/cozy, r/thenightfeeling, r/breadit. You’re gonna make a cup of hot black tea, you’re gonna put a dash of cream and one sugar in it. You’re gonna use your most ergonomically pleasing mug, got it? You’re gonna sip, sip, sip. You’re gonna scroll, scroll, scroll. You’re gonna be sitting on a couch with firm but comfortable cushions. You’re gonna do that until you’re filled with the spirit of hygge. You’re gonna do that until you’re literally warm from the inside out. Until the harsh, cold edges of reality can no longer pierce your delicate, vulnerable skin.
And then, once you’ve reached this enlightened and glowy state of being, once you’re at the edge of exactly the right temperature of warm but not hot, once you’re right there, and this is important so repeat after me, you’re gonna say outloud to yourself and to the universe:
They should’ve never cancelled the 2014 My-Fair-Lady-retelling-based sitcom Selfie starring John Cho and Karen Gillan.
That’s right. And then you’re gonna say it a few more times until you really feel it in your bones.
And then you’re gonna write a letter to ABC and we’re all gonna work to return Selfie to television. And we’ll never feel pain again.
4. Well, I think that about wraps things up!
